How much gun violence in the US?
According to the Gun Violence Archive, which classifies a mass shooting as an occurrence in which four or more people are hurt or killed, there have been over 200 mass shootings in the US so far this year. Both domestic and public shootings are included in their statistics.
In the past week, there have been two in Texas: five people were killed at a residence in Cleveland, north of Houston, and eight at a mall in Allen, close to Dallas.
There have been more than 600 mass shootings in each of the last three years, or about two every day on average.
The deadliest such incident occurred in Las Vegas in 2017 and left 500 people wounded. But less than 10 individuals are typically killed in most mass shootings.
