What could be done to reduce gun violence?
Firstly, Integral Background Checks: To stop people with a history of violence or mental health concerns from obtaining firearms, implement and enforce universal background checks for all gun sales, including private transactions(Everytown, 2023).Secondly, to better identify and treat potential risk factors for violence, increase access to mental health services and support. Thirdly, enact and execute "red flag" laws, which permit temporary firearm confiscation from anyone believed to be a risk to themselves or others. These laws are also known as extreme risk protection orders (ERPOs).Fourthly, ban on assault weapons: Take into account enacting limitations or prohibitions on the purchase and ownership of assault weapons with military-style design and large-capacity magazines. Fifthly, storage requirements for firearms: Encourage secure gun storage and enact legislation requiring it in order to prevent unwanted access. Then, Invest in community-based violence prevention initiatives that deal with the underlying causes of violence and offer assistance to those who are vulnerable. Lastly, make laws stronger to protect victims of domestic abuse and bar those who have committed the crime from obtaining firearms. It's essential to remember that no single solution can completely eliminate gun violence, but a combination of these strategies can help reduce its occurrence and create safer communities. Additionally, any efforts to address gun violence should respect individuals' rights while prioritizing public safety.
